Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said today that the upcoming version of the Magic Mouse with voice control for AI “makes sense,” although he claimed that he hasn’t heard any rumors about this feature yet.

A morning report from Korean leaker “yeux1222” suggested Apple has created a prototype Magic Mouse that combines touch, voice control, and hand gestures. Gurman noted on social media today that, considering AI, such a feature does make sense. He then went on to suggest the rumor is probably just “a misinterpreted translation” of a line from a report he shared in December about a future Magic Mouse

It’s not clear if yeux1222’s rumor was based on Gurman’s original report, but Gurman made it clear today that Apple is going to focus on a more ergonomic design for the new mouse and unspecified gestures.

If voice control does come to the next Magic Mouse, it could be used for Apple’s AI, where users might be able to call Siri or use voice-based commands to perform specific actions. If voice control does come to the next Magic Mouse, it could be used for Apple’s AI, where users might be able to call Siri or use voice-based commands to perform specific actions. Gurman claims that, even though there might not be an immediate use case in the near future, especially since Macs already support such voice-based features, there could be a use case in the next 5 to 10 years. Adding voice control to the Magic Mouse could be part of a long-term update cycle, considering future-proofing. So far, Apple has not frequently updated the Magic Mouse, and since the release of Magic Mouse 2 in 2019, it hasn’t seen any major updates. In fact, Apple has only added new colors and swapped the Lightning port for a USB-C port.

Indeed, Gurman earlier this month reported that Apple was working on a “complete overhaul” of the Magic Mouse that features a more modern design. He added that it also includes a charging port in a more accessible location on the bottom of the device, though at the time he made no mention of voice control or gesture support.

A tweet from Gurman and another from yeux1222 hinted that the Magic Mouse could arrive in 2026 and may be launched with the OLED MacBook Pro, said to be coming in the same year.
