It has been expected for some time, but according to a new report, Amazon is ready to remove with Android Foundation for its fire TV streaming devices, with replacement later this year.

The first reported in 2023, Amazon is working in the background on a new “Vega OS” that will eventually replace Android on some major products of the company, including fire TVs. The news on this matter has been quiet for some time, but the work behind the curtain has continued.

Now, low pass Reports The Amazon plans to introduce its new fire TV platform later this year, with Android Veraide.

The report claimed that Amazon will “release the first TV streaming device that is still operated by the unique-vega OS later this year. Apparently, the device was about to launch at the end of 2024. Vega OS requires all new apps written for the platform, which has left the Amazon “leading publishers” to ensure important apps.

This news does not come for a long time after Amazon’s documentation that indicates a new Android-based fire OS update for TV. That documentation assured many people that Amazon Vega is not proceeding with its plans for OS, but this latest report cites information about apps made by prominent publishers for this new platform along with further job listing.

It remains to be seen how the switch for Vega OS will be handled, but it is difficult to imagine that it will affect existing products because it is not an especially easy achievement to swap an operating system on a product that customers use actively. For example, it stands for the reason that continuing updates for existing equipment may require a new Android version, while the new hardware jumps to Vega OS, but things are still very vague. Smart TV running fire TVs also add another set of possibilities here.
