On Thursday, February 20, Amazon announced that it found Amazon Coins unnecessary and that, after August 20, the service would be discontinued.
The company stated on its FAQ page on its website, “Starting August 20, 2025, you will no longer have access to the Amazon Appstore on your Android device.” It further added, “We will also be ending the Amazon Coins program on August 20, 2025. As of February 20, 2025, Amazon Coins will no longer be available for purchase.” According to the FAQ page, the Amazon Appstore will still be available on Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices.
It is stated in the page that the Amazon Coins used for purchases in certain apps and for in-app spending on the Amazon Appstore should be used by 20 August. After this date, a refund will be credited to customers for any remaining Coins in their accounts.
Kindle users will be able to buy Amazon Coins come May 2013, as the company first announced all the way back in February of that same year. It was in a posting to their page for developers on the Amazon Appstore that Amazon announced today that they would discontinue Amazon Coins and operation of the Amazon Appstore on Android, a part of the company’s “ongoing efforts to streamline and improve our services and programs”.

Last year, Amazon had also announced that, starting March 6, 2024, the Amazon Appstore would no longer be available for download from the Microsoft Store on Windows 11 devices. Amazon also mentioned on a help page, “Microsoft will end support for the Android Subsystem for Windows on March 5, 2025.” “The Android Subsystem for Windows is required to run Android apps on Windows 11. Its discontinuation means Windows 11 devices will no longer support the Amazon Appstore.”
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on Wednesday (February 19) that it will no longer accept new customers for its collaboration solution, Amazon Chime, and will discontinue support for the service on February 20, 2026. Amazon Chime provides a single app that enables users to meet, chat, and make business calls both within and outside of their organization.
On Tuesday (February 18), Amazon announced that its social commerce feature, Inspire, is no longer available on the Amazon shopping app. Inspire, which was added to the app in 2022, provided a video and photo feed to help customers discover and shop for products.
