In the latest Bloomberg Power On newsletter revealed by Mark Gurman, Apple is taking active steps to start the build of its own smart glasses.

The product, currently codenamed N50, is expected to incorporate some of Apple’s AI advancements into the glasses—ideally without making them too expensive.

Apple has been secretly planning to come up with the best AR (augmented reality) glasses in the industry. However, we’re still at least a few years away from seeing a consumer-ready version of that vision.

For the moment, Apple is rumored to be working on the integration of smart glasses on a more real-life basis with its own partnering possibilities like Ray-Ban ones by Meta. These Meta smart glasses have gained decent popularity and include various tech features—though they don’t have a display. Instead, they pack a camera, microphone, AI assistant, and built-in speakers for audio.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg,

Apple is thinking in the same line. The gadget isn’t anywhere ready, but the plan is to eventually convert it into an intelligence device. It would analyze the environment around the user and provide useful information—though it won’t offer a full AR experience just yet.

Gurman has previously mentioned that due to privacy concerns, Apple might choose not to allow the glasses to take photos—but that decision hasn’t been finalized.

He also reiterated that Apple continues to work on AirPods with built-in cameras, which would bring the company’s visual intelligence technology to a new type of hardware.
