The next generation of the carplay is eventually starting to roll out, and includes a new feature that resolves one of the long boundaries of regular carplays.
Apple announced the launch of CarPlay Ultra last week, and it offers a radio app, allowing you to control AM and FM radio stations within the carplay. With regular carplays, you have to switch between carplays and your vehicle underlying software interfaces to control the radio, so the carplay ultra will be more convenient for this purpose.
The underlying radio app of Carplay Ultra can also be used to control satellite radio stations, but it is less notable that Siriusxm already provides a carplay app.
Apple shared an image of Siriusxm experience within the radio app, but unfortunately it did not take a look at the AM/FM side of the app.
Apple previewed the FM Radio Control when it first announced the next generation carplay in 2022, but the design of the app has changed slightly since.
CarPlay Ultra also has a climate app with climate control, allowing you to adjust the fan speed within the temperature and carplay of your vehicle.
Carplay is rolling in Ultra new and selecting existing Aston Martin vehicles in the US and Canada, so it is currently limited to a luxury brand. Apple promised that several other vehicle manufacturers from all over the world would offer Carplay Ultra next year, with a list of committed brands including Hyundai, Kia, Genesis and others.
