Video game industry analysis firm DFC Intelligence has published an updated report at the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch 2, which increases its previous sales forecast from 15 million units to 16 million units sold from 2025 to the end of 2025.
This is based on the fact that Nintendo holds a conservative approach in the forecast of a new product (which is 15 million units). With the original switch, Nintendo had originally estimated to sell 10 million units, but ended 15 million sales. The DFC believes that Switch 2 may sell 20 million units if manufacturing can meet the demand for console, but it is unlikely to happen, so the forecast of 16 million.
After the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI on May 26, 2026, DFC feels that Nintendo Switch 2 is even more important for the launch industry, as far as it is claimed that it is certainly the most important console launch. GTA VI would have greatly helped the sale of Sony’s Playstation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series Console, but for 2025 with that factor, DFC now predicts a decline in console video game software sales in both North America and Europe. North America is expected to see a decline of 2% in 2025, Europe was estimated to see revenue from 2024.
In the Far East, however, Japan is expected to see a 25% increase in console software revenue this year. It is mainly thanks to the aggressive pricing of the nintendo switch 2 at its home turf, where the user can grab a field-closed version for 49,980 (around $ 342), which is a much lower price than elsewhere in the world. After adding Japanese sales, DFC estimated to increase the sales of global video game console by 3% in 2025.

Overall, DFC Intelligence estimates that Nintendo Switch 2 can sell more than 100 million units by the end of 2029, which will make it a major console platform ever. As is discussed in our interview with the first firm founder, CEO and Principal David Cole, DFC believes that Nintendo is creating a new console position as a primary gaming system and may be a major partner for many third-party publishers.
For the industry as a whole, DFC hopes that GTA VI will help kickstart a new development phase for the videoogem industry between 2026 and 2029, setting new hardware and software sales records.
