Fortnite Chapter 6 introduces several new modes, including an FPS deathmatch mode called Fortnite Ballistic.
After years of speculation, Fortnite’s highly anticipated first-person mode is finally set to debut on December 11 with the launch of Fortnite Ballistic. However, this isn’t a Battle Royale mode. Instead, it’s a 5v5, Counter-Strike-inspired, round-based shooter where one team tries to plant a Rift Point Device (a bomb), while the other team works to defuse it.
In Fortnite Ballistic, there are no respawns. A round ends when an entire team is eliminated or when the Rift Point Device is either defused or detonated. At the start of each round, players receive a pistol and some credits, which they can use between rounds to purchase better weapons. Players can also choose gadgets like Bubble Shields and Proximity Mines to give them an edge.

If you survive a round, you get to keep your gear for the next one. But if you die, you’ll need to buy new items. Here’s a twist: even if your team wins the round by detonating the Rift Point Device, you could still die in the explosion! This adds an interesting challenge for teams trying to defend the armed bomb from being defused. The first team to win seven rounds takes the match.
Epic Games has described Fortnite Ballistic as being in “Early Access” rather than a fully-featured mode. At launch, it will only include one map—Skyline 10, a city-themed battleground.
Where Will It Be Availaible?
Fortnite Ballistic will be available in both Ranked and Unranked modes. In Ranked mode, if a teammate leaves, the game won’t fill the slot with another player. However, if your game crashes or you disconnect, you’ll have a three-minute grace period to reconnect—a feature Fortnite has never offered in official modes before. Ranked matches will also include lever penalties, like temporary matchmaking bans for players who quit games.
Although Fortnite Ballistic is a first-person mode, it will still be compatible with most Fortnite cosmetics, such as skins and emotes.
