As promised earlier this month at MWC, Google has now started rolling out the Astra-powered camera and screen sharing capabilities for Gemini Live.

According to a report, Android users with Gemini overlaid can see a new “Share screen live” button above the pre-existing “Ask about the screen” screenshot suggestion chip and the Gemini Asking field. This lets you share your entire screen (single app sharing is not available).

This user also has access to new real-time camera capabilities that allow interaction with the world around you. You can access this by opening the full Gemini Live interface and starting a video stream. There should be a button in the bottom-right corner to switch to your front-facing camera.

It makes sense that Google is rolling this out gradually and increasing availability. It hasn’t gone live on the devices we checked today.

Gemini Live uses a new phone call-style notification and a more compact full-screen interface, although these features haven’t been widely rolled out yet.

This report today is from subscribers of Xiaomi phones and Google One. Besides, the demo is early March; Google has added, “Astra Gemini Advance subscribers (which starts from $19.99 per month for AI premium service) and those on Android devices to access the general (specific versions unspecified).”

In the month of January, Google confirmed that “Project Astra features such as screen sharing and live video streaming” will be the first to be made available to owners of Pixel (and Galaxy S25 series) mobile devices. There is, however, no technical reason as to why one would restrict Astra to any specific devices.

Likewise, Apple iPhones should also get their fair share of well-quoted features, but Google has not yet spoken on that extended support. Meanwhile, it is talk live on photos, files, and YouTube videos- still not available on iOS.
