After offering voluntary exit in January, Google is said to have closed “hundreds of employees” in the division responsible for Android, Chrome, Pixel, and more.
According to it Information On Thursday evening, with Google confirmed “job cuts” in a statement of publishing and stated that it focuses on “becoming more agile and operating more effectively.”
There is no special on whether any team or product was particularly difficult hits. In terms of influence, it is unlikely that the final users will notice any changes with the move, with major offerings and efforts left.
The platform and devices division include Android (Auto, TV, Wear OS, XR) to Chrome and Chromos, as well as Google Photos and Google one. (Google search and maps are in a separate group, while Gemini is Google Deepmind and elsewhere.) Then there is pixel, fitbit and nest on the hardware front.
That large group led by SVP Rick Oosteraloh was formed in April of 2024 after the merger of platforms and ecosystems and equipment and services.
In announcing the byout program earlier this year, Google wanted to address the criticism of previous trimmed and how it did not give people the option to quit in advance. More broadly, “speed and efficiency” was stated as a goal, with a general company-wide mandate late.
