After American support, Google Wallet for Android now allows those in the United Kingdom to create a digital ID pass with their UK passports. Other updates today include more state IDs and secrecy-protection work on age verification.

UK passports can be saved in the Google Wallet App as an ID pass. To start, tap the bottom-right corner> ID> ID pass the wallet tap and follow the instructions.

In the US, they can be used at TSA checkpoints in select airports, but “ID passes made from UK passport are currently not eligible for use in TSA security.” Instead, Google is partnering with the Rail Distribution Group, which will provide the opportunity to use their digital ID to verify the train passengers that they meet the eligibility criteria for selected rail cards on their rail card retailing platform Railcard.co.uk. ”

It works through the web, with a system-level sheet you confirm that you want to share your ID pass with a third-party service.

Google also announced today that the wallet is integrating the zero knowledge proof (ZKP) technology, which means “there is no way to connect age to your identity”.

Given many sites and services, age verification is required, we wanted to develop a system that not only confirms the age, but it does in a way that protects your privacy.

It can be leveraged by mobile devices, apps and websites that use Google’s digital credential API.

We will use ZKP where other Google is suitable in products and partners with apps such as bumblers, which will use a digital ID from Google Wallet to identify the user to verify the age and verify ZKP. To help all promote a safe, more secure environment for all, we will also open our ZKP technology for other wallets and online services.

Finally, Google Wallet is coming to 50 more countries. However, it only provides access to digital pass and not tap-to-pay.
