In Apple’s iOS 18.4 software update, a new environment music feature is available in the control center options on the iPhone. It is free to use, and does not require an apple music membership. It is also more customized than more users. How to keep reading to learn.
There are four different sound categories for ambient music including sleep, cold, productivity and good. You can personally add each category to your control center, and then tap on one to start a playlist of songs in the chosen category.
Add environment music button to control the center
- Open the control center by swiping down the top-right corner of your screen.
- Tap on the top-left corner + button, or press for a long time in an empty space.
- Tap Add a control Under the screen.
- Scroll down on the new “surroundings music” control section and choose from Sleep, Chilly, ProductivityAnd Goodness,
- Tap any spaces to get out of edit mode.
When you turn on one of the environment music options in the control center, the playback control will appear on the screen. You can also tap or long press Dynamic Island on new iPhones to reach the playback control or bring a fullscreen music player with album art.
Changing the environment music category playlist
This is not clear, but you can actually choose a separate playlist for each environment music category. In fact, this option is so hidden in the interface that some can also call it “Easter Egg”-or perhaps a non-co-operative UI design option. Apple describes the playlist in this way:
- Sleep: Sleep sounds, sleeping, sound bath and piano sleep.
- Cold: Piano Chil, Ambient Chill, Low-Fi Jazz, and Pure Chill.
- Productivity: Beatstrocts, Binoural frequency, pure focus and classical concentration.
- Good: Pure meditation, spa, beats and breath, and pure calm.
What do you have to do to choose a separate playlist here – or even your own:
- Open control center, then tap , The icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
- Tap on an ambient music button that you added to your control center (try to avoid harvesting the minus symbol or button).
- Tap the playlist in the blue next to the “playlist”, then select one of the playlists from the dropdown. If you choose from the libraryTap choose To choose a playlist from your music library.
- Tap to any space, then tap again to get out of edit mode.
So now you know how to change the playlist while listening to the environment, whether it is comfortable sleep, relaxation, focus on tasks, or for meditation and self-care.
