According to new information from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 19 could have a completely different look and feel from the iPhone interface that we currently use. Gurman claims that the new iPhone OS, along with Apple’s upcoming iPadOS 19 and macOS 16, will borrow many elements from Vision Pro’s visionOS. This will include basic elements like buttons and windows, along with a focus on transparent components.
This is expected to make the appearance of all Apple OS platforms more unified, making it easier to understand and use the iPhone interface. Gurman has previously referred to these changes as the biggest shift in iOS in over a decade.
But beyond just refreshing the look, iOS 19, along with the company’s future plans, will be preparing for upcoming form factors, like the rumored foldable iPhone Flip or the long-awaited touchscreen-equipped Mac.
A New Design for a New Era
While you might not feel that iOS 18 looks particularly outdated, its design is still based on principles established back in iOS 7.

Even though it’s not strictly necessary, a fresh new look for the iPhone’s operating system could spark more interest in updates from casual iPhone users. It could also guide them toward other Apple devices if the leap to using an Apple tablet or PC becomes less significant (or at least seems that way).
In addition to the new look, rumors claim that iOS 19 will feature a redesigned camera app, a live translation feature for AirPods, and finally introduce several Apple intelligence features that were initially planned to be launched in iOS 18 but were delayed. iOS 19, with its new design and capabilities, is expected to be announced at WWDC 2025, which will take place as usual in June. It seems like this event will kick off major changes for those buying iPhone 17 and other new Apple devices later this year, as well as for those who already have new gadgets in their desks and pockets when the update goes live.
