There is a high probability that the really-for-a-long-time feature of seamless updates will be incorporated into the Samsung S25 series, which is something that other Android users have been doing for years. This will enable the fans of Galaxy S25 to install system updates in the background and apply them with just a quick reboot, thus avoiding the long downtimes that Android users have been experiencing for ages.

Seamless updates were first introduced back in 2016 with Android Nougat 7.1. However, Samsung was slow to adopt this feature in its One UI ecosystem. Until this year, Samsung finally added seamless updates to one of its devices, the Galaxy A55.

Now, it seems Samsung is ready to bring seamless updates to its flagship Galaxy S series. Leaked files from the Galaxy S25 Ultra confirm that the device will indeed support this feature. It’s likely that the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus will also include seamless updates. However, now they come with even more tangible evidence compared to past reports on the subject.

Seamless updates utilize two partitions: Slot A for functioning and Slot B as a fallback. The slot in which operations are being done gets updates downloaded to the other slot, and after the reboot, this slot is changed to become the operational slot. Users notice no changes and do not spend prolonged periods staring at an updating or optimizing apps screen.

When an update fails, the boot still happens from the original slot, which guarantees that the backup will always be functional. But it does have a small disadvantage: it occupies more internal storage. Right now, however, with newer flagship devices, say a Galaxy S25 series, storage isn’t much of an issue.

Seamless updates can definitely enhance the entire user experience. It is nice to see Samsung finally stepping up to the plate and adopting this game-changing feature on a larger scale along with other Android manufacturers. In fact, this addition truly makes the Galaxy S25 series all the more exciting.
