Apple introduced its AI features with the release of iOS 18 last year, which has significantly changed the way users interact with their iPhones. Apple continues to add several new features to its Apple Intelligence platform, redefining functionality and productivity. One of the most notable features claimed by Apple Intelligence last year was a redesigned Siri, which would allow it to compete more effectively against companies like Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT. However, it seems that due to development challenges, the much-anticipated Siri experience will be delayed and is unlikely to be part of the iOS 18.4 release.
Developers continue to struggle with iOS 18.4’s development
Next week, Apple is expected to release the iOS 18.4 beta for developers, which will include some Apple Intelligence upgrades. iOS 18.4 was anticipated to be a major update with significant Siri improvements, but it seems that the company will take some additional time before releasing it to the public.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is dealing with engineering issues and software bugs, which could delay the launch of the new Siri functionality. The company recently announced that it will release new languages for Apple Intelligence in April, which is likely to coincide with the release of iOS 18.4. That said, Apple has limited time left to prepare its features, including Siri. Given the company’s struggles with software development issues, it’s possible that some features may be delayed or postponed until iOS 18.5, which is expected to release around WWDC 2025.

If you’re not familiar with it, the new Siri experience supported by Apple Intelligence will feature better understanding and responses to user requests through personalized context. It will extend the ability to work across and within apps, as well as enhance on-screen awareness to assist with what the user is viewing and much more. Apple engineers working on this feature have mentioned that it is not consistently functioning at this stage, meaning it will need more time to refine. If Apple plans to release its upcoming iOS 19 features on time, it will need to accelerate its software development.
It was previously reported that the gradual rollout of Apple’s AI feature in iOS 18 could cause delays in some key features of iOS 19 and their development. Based on the latest information, it seems that iOS 19 will follow the same trend of delayed features.
As for the competition, companies like Samsung and Google are releasing their AI features much faster, and if Apple wants to maintain its sales, it will need to pay attention to this. We’ll share more details on this matter as further information becomes available, so stay tuned.
