With the next generation version of iOS and other 2025 software updates, Apple is planning to change its numbering plan. Instead of iOS 19, which will logically follow iOS 18, Apple is going to call the update iOS 26 instead. Apple plans to use 26 in all its platforms (the number representing the upcoming year), which will probably be less confused than iOS 19, Macos 16, WatchOS 12, and Visionos 3.
If the Apple wants to streamline naming, it may understand the future for the future to follow the same year-based numbering. An iphonee 26 or iphone 26 Pro that launches with iOS 26, will be more logical than an iPhone 17 that runs ios 26, at least until the iphoneion 26 or iOS 28 is required to update the iOS 27 or iOS 28.
Year-based numbering for iPhones will make it clear that when an iPiphone came out. The average iphoneion users who do not upgrade regularly, may not perhaps tell you the year that was launched their iphoneion, because iphoneion is not a clear link between 14 and 2022, or iPhone 16 and 2024.
Apple may already have a naming conloid in the tasks where some kind of infection will be understood. This year, we are on track to get iphone 17 . In 2026, iphoneion 18, and in 2027, iphone ’19. But 2027 is the 20th anniversary of the 2027, so Apple would like its 20th anniversary device to be discusses 19? Apple did not create that option on the 10th anniversary of the iphone in 2017, and we never finished with the Tophone 99 as we got the iphone X instead.
Apple uses year-based number for its MACS, although not more. MacBook Air is just MACBook air, but when you are looking for technical glasses or comparative information on Apple’s site, you will find that the latest model Is really Macbook air (M4, 2025). iPhones can also be just “iphone” and can be added in the same way.
Mac naming has a disconnect and the way the Apple is updating the Software Software is moving forward. Mac has been nominated for the year he has been released, but the iOS and its sister are going to be nominated for the update launch. In September 2025, ios 26 , iOS 27 in September 2026, iOS 28 in September 2027, and so on. For iphoneion, Mac-Like will be a sensible option rather than the number of numbers, but it is suspected that Apple iphoneion (2025) would like to launch to run IOS 26.
Apple can also go with iPad numbering for iPhiphoneion in the future. iPads are not designated like iPhones, and have historically used generations. For example, there were low cost ipad, ipad (5th generation) and then (6th generation) and (7th generation) and so on. Recently, Apple has been using chips to differentiate between different generations of Aipad. So M2 is with iPad Air, and M3 Edipad Air, A16 ipad (11th generation) and A17 Pro with iPad Mini. The chip-based naming will probably not work for iphone such as it does for ipadm and some Macs because there are many iPhones that use the same chip. Apple will need to do something like iphoneion (A19), Oiphoneion Air (A19), OPHONOU Pro (A19), and Oiphonene Pro Max (A19), which is not better for marketing.
Apple may not change the numbering numbers, given that the naming in iPads, Mac, iPhones and other devices has never been straight. Has Apple intended to pursue the names of the device. We will hear about the plan to go from IOS 187 to IOS 26 in the Kenote event, and the way the Apple frames can only provide some insight whether we can expect a similar change for the match of Makeiphoneion.
