Apple to enable a low-term iOS 16 feature on iPhone demo units

In its 2025 Environment Progress Report Issued today, Apple revealed that it plans to expand its clean energy charging facility for iPhone and iPad demo units on performance in Apple Stores and other retail stores across the United States.

In 2022 introduced in the United States, as part of iOS 16.1, alternative clean energy charging facility iPhone enables users to charge their equipment during day time when electric grids are relatively cleaner. Apple says that this facility can reduce your carbon footprint by selectively charging if low carbon-ecosystem electricity is available.

In a new document, obtained by Marasters The contributor Aaron Paris, Apple, said the clean energy charging facility will be enabled by default on all iPhone and iPad demo units in the US store, which will reduce the carbon footprint of those equipment. To ensure that the demo units are always ready to be used by customers, Apple said that the devices will resume charging immediately in the event that they fall below 50% battery life.

Clean energy charging is also capable by default for customers. The iOS 16.1 and later, the feature can be managed in the Settings app under the battery → Battery Health and Charging. This facility is still available in the United States.

It is one of many environmental initiatives and milestones which has been declared by Apple on 22 April before Earth Day.
