Dio A small company focuses on giving a single product to the Apple Ecosystem: A low -cost airplay is known as a speaker system Dio nodeInitially launched in 2022 as a Crowdfunded Indegogo campaign, the DIO node later later started shipping backcrows that year before opening for all customers.

The purpose of the DIO node is a low-cost option for users, looking to develop a network of ‌ Airplayay speakers scattered in their homes, with a single speaker priced at $ 89.95 and 3-pack and 5-pack options, bringing the cost of per-speaker below only $ 80. This is a bit cheaper than a homepod mini, and I have spent some time with a 3-pack of the dio node, to understand how two small speakers are compared and what is the proposal of the DIO node for users in the Apple ecosystem.

From the perspective of a design, the Dio Node is a very simple unidiractal speaker made of dark brown plastic, which covers the entire front of the device with a light brown or silver speaker grill. It measures about 4 inch (102 mm) square deeply 1.5 inches (38 mm), which is a little taper from the front to the back, and its weight is just half a pound (222 grams). There are some very large dio branding in white behind the node, but fortunately it should not appear in most setups. A soft pad on the lower edge of the node helps protect the surfaces from potential scratches.

The top of the node has three subtle rectangular buttons, in which the left and right buttons serve to reduce and enhance the volume respectively, while the middle acts as a play/poses button for an audio that is airplane to the speaker. Catching multiple buttons in various combinations serves such as updating the speaker’s firmware, resetting the Wi-Fi connection of the speaker and conducting the reset of a full factory.

The speaker operates with a barrel connector through a small 5V2A power adapter that plugs behind the speaker. The integrated cord on the adapter measures about 1.5 meters (59 in) long, so it gives you some flexibility in terms of placement in relation to an electrical outlet.

The setup is simple, with the node as soon as you plug it for the first time, enter a coupling mode. Once when the small LED behind the node turns red, go to the Wi-Fi section of the Settings app on your iOS device, where the node “set up will appear in the” Set up New Eairplay‌ speaker “section.

Tap on the node, select the Wi-Fi network you want to add, and give it a useful name to help you identify it in your list of iairplayay destinations. All-in-All, it takes about a minute to get and run the node on your network and you can use it as any other iairplayu destination, including accessing it from the control center or from within the compatible apps, it can be used in conjunctions with other iairplay speakers for additional dio nodes or multi-room audio.

If you want to move your integration a little further, you can also add your DIO node to your Apple home setup. It is also a simple process, so that you need to tap the “+” button in the home app and select “an accessory”, “Choose the” more option “lesson to see the node as a device available on your network, tap it, and choose which room you want to add in your house will suggest that the home app will suggest that you leave your home, when you leave your home, then you will play automatically when you leave your home app. The audio has to be stopped, but automation is closed by default and you can leave that step quickly to finalize the setup.

Once the speaker is installed in the home app, you can use it as a speaker for the intercom feature in Apple Home, can include the speaker in various other automation and shortcuts, and using Siri to control the playback on the node through the device from which you are playing. You can also set the speaker group preset which includes the node.

There is no limit to the number of dio nodes that you can link together, which means that you can easily spread them easily for the audio experience of the entire house at your home, and once they set anyone on your network, they can stream the audio. The node provides mono sound for 85 dB, so it can get quite vigorously for most room sizes, and I will not tell its sound quality enough but outstanding.

Compared to Odhomepod Mini, the DIO node does not have that much bass hole, and overall I prefer the hempod mini sound. Step to a full -sized homepods clearly provides even better and even better sound, but it is a separate class of speaker.

Dio says that the equation of the node is tuned to reduce the sounds, making it ideal to play podcast or audibook in your home because you go from room to room. It can certainly handle a decent range of music, but it lacks some perfection of sound you receive with some other speaker options. The airplayay protocol running on Wi-Fi distributes better sound quality, including support for blameless compared to wireless speakers running on Bluetooth, but you will not be able to occupy that complete quality here due to the small size of the speaker.

The buttons on the node are simple, but work relatively well, with play/poses commands almost effective in all speakers when pressing the middle button on any node. The buttons are on the side of the clicky, which makes it clear that when they are triggers, but possibly used in a calm environment when used in a calm environment. Adjusting the volume within an app from iOS or on your source device changes on the speaker, before I look at the same setup with a HOMEPOD mini, there is a little interval for a longer time.

To keep things simple, with its unique attention to iairplayay, the Dio node has many characteristics seen on the Odhomepod miniy and the number of many other low -cost speakers lacking, most clearly a microphone. Due to no microphone on the board on the dio node, it is not able to support the ‌Siri requests directly, for example, and it cannot support phone calls and other types of two-way communication.

Apps classifying their sound output as audio calls will not be able to send their audio to the node, but you should not have any problem with playback-centric audio sources. Dio marketing a microphone deficiency as a privacy feature unceively, is capable of hearing in a potential interaction given the concerns about voice-competent devices.

When you can pair the dio node in an Apple TV, it is not intended to use as a stereo or home theater system as it cannot pair directly on TV and does not support the stereo pairing. Windows has limited support on Mac and iTunes, although you can expand its mac capabilities using something like wicked amoeb’s Air Force app. But even without it, I had no problem sending audio to many dio nodes from the music app on Mac, and I had no problem with the audio sink.

The range seemed solid in my test, with no audio dropouts on any nodes, whether my source equipment in my 1,800-class foot house.

Overall, the DIO node is a proper option if you want to set a multi-room ofAirplay‌ audio in your home and do not want to spend a ton of money. It is difficult to recommend a single dio node on odhomepod mini for only $ 10 cost savings, viewing better overall sound, large feature set of ”homepod mini with things like audio handoffs, and tight ecosystem integration. But if you are looking for something around five or ten or more around your house, the savings become more enough, and if a set of dioairplayY Dio nodes is enough for your needs, it is a product that is worth considering.

Dio provides free shipping anywhere in America and provides 60-day free returns, so you have enough opportunity to try to see them whether they will work for your situation. The node is also certified for use in Canada and Europe, and Dio is expecting to expand the distribution in those areas in the near future.
