Eight years ago today, Apple Introducing homepodA smart speaker who said that it would provide “amazing sound quality and intelligence” in the house.
Announcing the press release in June 2017, Apple, former Apple’s Marketing Chief Philler, said, “Apple re -strengthened the portable music with the iPod and now the Homepod strengthened how we can enjoy music in our homes in a wireless manner.”
While the sound quality of the original homepods affected critics when it was launched, Apple failed to distribute a large extent on the intelligence front. Siri is widely considered inferior to other popular voice assistants, such as Amazon’s Alexa, and the rise of chatbots such as Openi’s chat and Google’s Gemini have put Siri even further.
Apple, to launch the Homepod Mini in November 2020, before deciding to shut down a full -sized homepod in March 2021, at that time, Apple said that it shut down a full -sized homepod to focus on its efforts on Homepod Mini, but was also a factor likely to decline in sales. Somewhat unexpectedly, Homepod began to receive high prices at resale marketplaces such as eBay, and Apple decided to release the second -generation full -sized homepods with some minor changes in January 2023.
What will happen next?
There is no rumor about the third generation homepod, but at least two other homepod products are reportedly in the pipeline.
In a version of January 2025 power on Newspaper, BloombergMark Gurman said that Apple was aiming to release a new homepod mini “by the end of the year.” He said that the speaker would be equipped with an apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, but it is not clear that there will be a consumer benefit of that change. There is no word on what other new features have been planned yet, but improve sound quality and a new chip safe bets. The current homepod mini is equipped with S5 chip of Apple Watch Series 5.
Apple is also rumored to plan an all-new smart home hub, described as homepods with screen. The device is expected to have a square iPad -like screen that can be connected to the speaker base, or it can be applied on a wall.
Apple’s smart home hub will also have a 6-inch or 7-inch display with an A18 chip. This will allow users to control smart home accessories, make facetime video calls, use the intercom feature of Apple among rooms in a house, and much more. It can also double as a home security system with Apple-designed smart home cameras.
In March, Apple Supply Chain Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the screen homepod would enter mass production in the third quarter of 2025, but it is not clear whether it will be launched this year or next year. Apple delayed individual Siri features, which is expected to be at the origin of the device, so perhaps there is a safe condition at this point next year. However, Apple can still provide an initial preview of the home hub at any point.
