It seems like everyone, except Nintendo, is talking about the Switch 2. Whether it’s the tech experts at Digital Foundry commenting on leaked images of the Switch 2 motherboard, speculating about the upcoming console’s performance, or licensed accessory makers revealing how the Switch 2 will look and when it will be released—everyone has something to say about it.
This week at CES, accessory maker Genki showcased their upcoming Switch 2 accessories and even presented a purported mockup of the Switch 2 itself. French outlet Numerama shared a video of their tour of the booth on X (formerly Twitter):

Switch 2 Release Date
According to Numerama, Genki representatives revealed several key details about the Switch 2, including its release date: April 2025. Nintendo promised to discuss their next-generation console before the end of March, so this aligns with that timeline. It’s worth noting that the original Switch was fully disclosed and released just two months apart in 2017.
The report also claimed that Genki confirmed the presence of an optical sensor, fueling current speculations that the Joy-Cons might also function as a mouse, much like how the Legion Go 2’s TruStrike controller works.
Genki also asserted that all of its cases, grips, and other Switch 2 accessories were made from actual console molds, not CAD designs.
Detailed Switch 2 Animation
However, Genki is doing much more than just leaking release dates. They created a detailed animation showing what the Switch 2 will look like and how its accessories will interact with it. It’s live on their website, and below is a standalone video:
Clearly, Genki has some legitimate Switch accessories prepared, lending credibility to the leaks. As seen in the video above, the new Joy-Cons are magnetically attached and feature a release button near the triggers. (The purported kickstand also looks much more durable compared to the current one.)
Rumors of magnetically connected Joy-Cons have been circulating since September 2024 when CAD renders and images of the Switch 2 and its controllers were posted on Reddit. This specific leak mentioned “magnetic slide rails” and precise dimensions for the device.
On a slightly related note, Digital Foundry’s analysis is worth watching (it timestamps key segments for easy navigation). The team cleverly dismisses any speculation that the Switch 2’s performance will match the PS4 Pro, discusses why the processor might be built using Samsung’s 8nm process, and even makes some educated guesses about battery capacity.
Of course, the only thing officially confirmed by Nintendo is that the Switch 2 will thankfully be backward compatible with its predecessor, and that this time, they plan to make enough units to prevent scalpers.
In a previous version of this article, May 2025 was cited as the rumored release date for the Switch 2. This has since been corrected to reflect the original French report.
