With the upcoming design overhaul this year, Apple plans to change the name of all its operating systems, reports BloombergGoing forward, iOS, iPados, Macos, TVOS, Watchos, and Visionos will be identified on the basis of year instead of version numbers. We are not receiving iOS 19, we are getting iOS 26.
Ipados 26, Macos 26, TVOS 26, Watchos 26, and Visionos 26 with iOS 26 will be with iPados 19, Macos 16, TVOS 19, Watches 12, and Visionos 3 instead of Visionos 26.
Changing the name of the operating system will introduce stability to the lineup rather than having many unequal numbers, which do not match. Apple is using the number of vehicles for the operating system and selecting the number of the upcoming year, so it will be iOS 26 instead of iOS 25 as the update will be available in both 2025 and 2026.
The names will reflect a new attempt by Apple to provide more integrated designs in the operating system on various devices. Fresh visionos-like design updates are coming on iOS, iPados, Macos, TVOS and Watchos.
Apple plans to announce the new naming scheme at the Worldwide Developers Conference which is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 9.
