The test for o3 and o3 Mini, the latest reasoning AI models announced by OpenAI on Friday, seems to mark the increased competition with others like Google to build smart models for handling tough problems.
It has been disclosed by CEO Sam Altman that the mini-version of o3 will be made available at the end of this January followed by the complete o3 model. Market experts expect these newly huge large model languages to attract more people and investments as they would become the greater advancement in technology.
Last September, Microsoft-bound OpenAI declared the o1 AI models, intended for solving difficult challenges by consuming longer time to process the queries.
In one of its posts, OpenAI declared that the new o1 models would be reasoning on tasks that were too complicated, solving the most challenging problems, and surpassing previous models in science, coding, and mathematics.
According to the company, the recent o3 and o3 Mini, which are currently being subjected to internal safety testing, would be more potent than o1-as-launched models. An application process that ends on January 10, ahead of their public release, has been opened by OpenAI for external researchers to apply to test the o3 models.
ChatGPT, which debuted in November 2022, sparked an AI arms race, fueling excitement around product launches and helping OpenAI close a $6.6 billion funding round in October.
Meanwhile, rival Alphabet’s Google launched the second generation of its Gemini AI model earlier in December to keep pace in the highly competitive field of artificial intelligence technology.
