Samsung had high expectations for a UI7, and even when all delays and original issues with the new OS are ignored, it is still very clear that there is a decrease in some parts of Samsung’s software. Now the bar can be one of the biggest disappointments of Samsung, not what could have happened, but because it fell too little.
Now a UI 7 was facing a baseless facility. When the software was first pushed into the Galaxy S24 in its beta version, the bar was now postponed as a simple lockscreen widget that displayed various bits of data.
Unchanged when essentially launched, now the bar still only shows only limited information.
When the phone is charging, now the bar will display the charge level, while the phone stops. When it wakes up, it is a small reminder of your phone’s battery position. If the media or favorite sports team is playing, now the bar will display basic information and further details. The same goes for YouTube video. Even Google Maps have access to the lockscreen widget, although the third-party integration stops there.
Now the bar will also showcase access to Samsung morning, afternoon and evening briefs. These quick AI Randons give you information about day or upcoming days, and will offer health data tracked from your Galaxy devices. The morning brief is a victim of the same unbended state that is now suffering from the bar, as we discussed earlier.
Samsung’s inflated expectations
It is understandable that a new UI and better AI function will open the doors for new features in a UI7, but it seems that Samsung was blinded by its boundaries.
One in blog post Expanding the AI capabilities of a UI 7 and how the company’s safety features are implemented in the Galaxy phone, Samsung offered preview of the preview that it would now look like on the average user’s device. This idea shouts in such a way that many people imagine how AI should work on a smartphone.
On the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a picture of Bar and Morning Brief has shown many characteristics that we have not seen in a UI 7. In the brief form of the morning, the optimistic image is able to understand that the user is on a trip and suggests items based on those travel details. The information provided includes music suggestions, useful apps to use during travel and tips on money exchange.
For Samsung’s credit, this image has some truth. A brief suggestion of the morning would suggest that you exercise, and it should offer a departure reminder to catch your flight. But Satan is in details.
Morning briefs are avoided as being able to make natural suggestions with AI, but we usually do not see valuable information in Samsung’s feature that provides such spot-on tips. For example, I do not see a brief description of the morning, now, is able to provide a forecast for the upcoming destination. This is the kind of information that you will expect to suggest AI, but it is often reduced to introduce the way it is being used.
Now while digesting repeatedly, the post also brings lockscreen widgets in similar expectations. Samsung noted that now the bar will be basically integrated into everyday tasks and the most commonly used apps. That part, we want to see yet.
Third-party apps are no longer added to the capabilities of the bar. We do not know that this is because Samsung is making it difficult or if the app developers are not just interest. To be honest, the latter seems more realistic. When repeated announcements were now announced, it seemed that the Third-Party apps would be a large part of its feature set, but the limited features currently provided are easily forgetable.
Samsung is also allegedly offering more third party support for apps outside the Google ecosystem. Apps like Uber will be the major candidates for a place in Now Bar. When Samsung can do this, it is in the air, and a lot of it depends on how much the developers want to bring their app in Samsung’s lockscreen feature. These additions will not need to wait until a UI 8 arrives.
A UI 8 can offer improvement
Disappointing, a UI7 did not symbolize a smooth transition. The new features that were not tested were everywhere, and now a brief description of bar and morning was fully capable of AI. In its current position, the bus of a UI7 now is now reduced.
A UI 8 can mean that we see improvement in the board. There is a lack of further details, but it seems that now there will be frequent, very least, adopt a new one that does not disturb the function that is always accessible.
It is a pair function, but it is not news about third-party integration or better AI abilities in Samsung’s AI briefs. We have to wait and see what Samsung does to make these features more capable. As it stands, these functions feel like virtual paper weight.
What do you think about the bar now? Does it require more work, or is it useful for you?
