Apple’s ultra-thin iPhone 17 model has been long rumored and is set to reportedly make it to the stores later this year. A new report has shared some potential details about it.

It cites South Korea’s Sisa Journal as saying Apple wants the new “iPhone 17 Air” to be just 6.25mm thick. If true, it would make for the thinnest iPhone the world has ever seen – versus the current record of 6.9mm from the iPhone 6. That would be about 20 percent thinner than both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and about 25 percent thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Most rumors peg the “iPhone 17 Air” as falling in the 6mm thickness range, with one source even speculating it could be as thin as 5mm.

It’s also reported that the ultra-thin iPhone 17 will be priced like the starting price of the iPhone 16 Plus, which is $899 in the United States. No expectations set for an iPhone 17 Plus, so this “iPhone 17 Air” is very likely to replace it.

Moreover, Samsung is reportedly planning to launch an ultra-thin smartphone this year. According to the report, the “Galaxy S25 Slim” will fall in the middle of the 6mm range in thickness, just like the “iPhone 17 Air.”

While there are mixed rumors going on concerning the “iPhone 17 Air,” a number of sources up to date agree it would wear a 6.6-inch screen display. It’s Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who shared that besides a 6.6-inch display, it would house an A19 chip with Dynamic Island and one rear camera alongside a standard 5G Apple-designed modem. This gadget shall be coming with 8GB RAM to fire up Apple Intelligence.

All in all, there may be some trade-offs to make with the Pro models in order to realize such a thin and light design.

Apple will probably announce all models of the iPhone 17 series this September, so more rumors about the “iPhone 17 Air” will probably emerge in the following months.
