LG shut down Android update server on 30 June

LG had announced four years ago that it would leave the smartphone business, and now the watch is running on any remaining update for the company’s Android phone.

When LG called it for Android smartphone, the company also committed for some more updates. This included an Android 12 update for select devices, excluding the final major update company, as well as safety updates for at least three years after releasing each device. This three -year cutoff has been passed for all LG devices for a long time, but any device is still floating out, soon will no longer be able to pull updates.

This is because on June 30, LG will close the server for its Android update.

LG’s notice reads as follows (translated and edited for drafting and clarity):

[Notice] Closing of mobile software service

We honestly thank all the customers who have always supported LG Electronics mobile phone products. By this, we create the following end notice for LG Electronics Mobile Phone Software Software, Update Center and LG Bridge. The following explanations are:

  • End of service: LG Electronics Mobile Phone Software Upgrade (FOTA), Update Center (App Service), LG Bridge Service (PC Tool)
  • Applicable Products: All LG Electronics Mobile Phone Products
  • Expiry date: June 30, 2025 00:00 [Korea time, GMT+9]

After the expiry of this service, the software upgrade service will no longer be provided. If necessary, please upgrade the software before the end of service on 30 June 2025. (The end of service includes all software upgrade services including service center upgradation). Since the app update service is no longer provided, the default app removed during the initialization cannot be downloaded.

At this point, it is unlikely that many people are still actively using LG devices, but if you have found a device in a drawer, which is not updated to its final update, now is time to do so.
